According to NY Times, while a majority of US states have data privacy laws in legislative process, only 3 states (CA, CO, and VA) have data privacy laws of some sort signed into law. This can be considered as an indicator of a relatively low public interest into the data issue. Although companies like Apple and Google are increasingly making data flows on their products and services more transparent, they still designed them in a way that doesn't portray data as "intrusive". Therefore, private efforts on data visibility will only contribute to the awareness, not concerns, of data use.
